Skira Editions publishes Post-Digital, a new monograph dedicated to Pascal Dombis, a French visual artist. Internationally recognized for his experimental approach to digital media and algorithms, his visually striking and conceptually bold works question our relationship with images, language, and new technologies.

Trained as an engineer, Pascal Dombis turned to digital art in the early 1990s, exploring the possibilities offered by computers and algorithms to create complex and unpredictable visual compositions. His work is characterized by the repetition of simple patterns, generating destabilizing structures that challenge perceptions of language and rationality. Through his mastery of lenticular technology – a material composed of optical lenses that produces effects of depth and motion – Pascal Dombis creates dynamic works in which shapes and colors shift according to the viewer’s angle, thus actively involving the spectator.

At the beginning of his career, from 1994 to 2000, Pascal Dombis was part of the fractalist movement, which used fractal theory to propose a new artistic paradigm. He has since participated in numerous exhibitions in France and internationally, including Text(e)~Fil(e)s (Palais-Royal, Paris, 2010), a monumental 250-meter-long installation composed of proliferating texts. Among his recent exhibitions are Post-Digital at the Museum of Contemporary Art Sorocaba (2022), Artists & Robots at the Grand Palais in Paris (2018), Cybernetic Consciousness at Itaú Cultural in São Paulo (2017), and the Venice Biennale (2013). He has also produced major public installations, including Double Connection (2020), a permanent work nearly 100 meters long in the heart of Shanghai, and Loophole in the Sky (Aurora), a permanent public artwork created in Bangkok in 2024.

Featuring 200 images and essays by Céline Berchiche, Paula Braga, Clara Figueiredo, Didier Girard, and Dominique Moulon, as well as an interview with the artist conducted by Franck James Marlot, this publication offers an in-depth exploration of an artistic approach that merges aesthetics with critical reflection on technological transformations.
