Mixed_Grill(e) is a site specific installation specifically created for the Raygun space. The 2 main walls are fully covered by a print composed by hundred thousand images from the Google image search on keyword GRID (Grille in french). Images are displayed as contact sheets in an interlaced mode (sliced in tiny vertical lines) which produce a blurry visual effect and prevent a “clear” reading. Individual image nature can be revealed / read when using a lenticular sheet that the visitor can handle and apply onto the wall.
GRID is the quintessential modernist form ( Mondrian, Sol Lewitt, Ad Reinhardt …), but Pascal Dombis is also interested that Google search relates to a wider range of images beyond art ones: from low culture (Grid Girls), sustainability issues (Power Grid), anti-technology (Off the Grid) to … Australian barbecue culture (Grill).
With Mixed_Grill(e), Pascal Dombis aim is to create an installation that uses the Grid paradigm to build an environment where the viewer can be immersed in multiple level and different stories that deal about space and its multiple way of representation.
